Independence Day

Some thoughts on Independence.

I came to this beautiful country over 30 years ago, and like so many immigrants before me, I was chasing the ‘American Dream’, the shining city on a hill. I have been through recessions, earthquakes, riots and so many other catastrophes. Yet, the dream was always alive deep down in my heart. I wrote songs about it, I wrote lyrics about it, I laughed, I cried about it. Still, it remained an anchor, a solid belief that we can all get along and accept our differences and respect each others opinions.

For we are AMERICANS!

This year, I don’t know about you, but I don’t feel much like celebrating with all that has happened and we are all going through right now.

So, as far as I’m concerned, I will go back to my original impression, this little spark, this little flame that helped me through all this chaos before.

So, maybe we all need a little independence from ourselves. Give ourselves a break and look to where we are, shut out the noise, the social media pressure, the self indulging, the madness that is on the news.

As Don Henley once said so masterfully: ‘Learn to be Still’

So let’s be quiet for a moment, let’s be still.

Just remember we are AMERICANS!

We can do this!

Happy 4th of July.

GEIST - Guitars have been repaired and are ready for action!

For the longest time, both my acoustic guitars 8 and 12 string, needed repair. I searched high and low for a good repair shop and after some exhaustive search, found Patt’s Guitar Shop in Culver City. That’s close to where I live in PDR. So, I went online, booked my appointment and dropped them off on June 2nd. After 2 weeks they were ready!

I have my 12 and 6 strings back!

Needed repair, battery and cables to internal pickup were corroded.
Thanks to Patt’s Guitar Repair worth it, great service, good price.

GEIST - Book of Light - 'Sacred Ground' featuring Patrick Abbate

Sacred Ground

I’ve working on this song for quite some time now and all the pieces are coming together. However, I was in dire need of a ‘smoking’ lead guitar player for this track. It just so happened that Patrick Abbate was in L.A. all the way from Sardinia, Italy, and was kind enough to lay down mind blowing lead guitars. He did such an amazing job on ‘Sacred Ground’ that it’s going to be hard for me to pick and choose the best versions, because they are all so damn good!

Thank you Patrick for making the noise and Ruth and Angie of course for keeping up with the noise.

All I can say is, The Book of Light is starting to become more and more real…

GEIST - Book of Light - The Making of...

GEIST - Book of Light

So, the music writing process is in full swing now.

Out of many fragments and melody lines I had in my head over the last few months, it’s time to put them into recording, making them become cohesive songs. It’s interesting to watch the process itself unfold.

How do you compose these things and write lyrics that make sense? Most of all, will the fans appreciate the work that is involved finishing these tracks? I have posted some outtakes from sessions and will post more as time permits. For now, the music is taking shape and the story will follow naturally by itself.

As far as the guest musicians are concerned, I am so amazed at the generosity and love that my fellow musicians are sharing with this project and the willingness to participate in their own right. Following my guidance and direction and putting their own spin on things.

The Book of Light, another massive undertaking and I hope I have the stamina to see it all through.

Thank you, my friends!

GEIST - Book of Lightg - The Doctor is in!

P.U.R.E.

Dr. Simon Mills honored us with his presence the other night and laid down some killer piano tracks for the latest GEIST song, P.U.R.E. It’s part of the new album ‘Book of Light’ and it’s going to rock for sure.
After a few Martinis, the doctor got into full swing, working on intro, verse and chorus parts for the song and after a few hours we had all the delicious parts we needed. Dr. Simon Mills, you might remember, appeared on the ‘Book of Shadows’ album on the songs: ‘Book of Shadows’ and ‘The Construct’.

It’s always a delight for me to work with such talented people, who put their own spin on songs without me having to interfere with the proceedings.

Well done, Herr Doktor!
And thank you for breathing life into this gem.

Mucho gusto!

GEIST 'One World' Guitar is finished!

Made with love and technical perfection, I was finally able to get my hands on this beauty. I named her ‘Emily’, although she better known as ‘The One World’ guitar. A Fender based structure, fine young maple wood, pristine electronics, completed by master builder, Renato Giordano, she is now ready for recording on GEIST Book of Light. So many times I have played all kinds of guitars, but honestly, this one feels special in my hands. Light weight (so it won’t break your shoulder by the end of the night), its body feels very comfortable and its neck makes it easy for fingers to slide over. It’s a fantastic piece of art and I hope it will serve me well for years to come.

GEIST meets Patrick Abbate and Band

GEIST meets Patrick Abbate and Band.

All the way from Sardinia, Italy, Patrick and his band joined Ruth and Martin for lunch at Mo’s Place here in beautiful Playa del Rey, California.
It was the first time we actually met and the band was on their to the airport (LAX) to embark on the 24 hour journey back home. It was such a pleasure hanging with these guys and Patrick offered his lead guitar services for the new ‘Book of Light’ project.

Stay tuned for more developments on this. Meanwhile you can check out Patrick’s website here:
